New evidence reveals that teens are not just prolific texters whilst they are awake they do it when they sleep too – ‘sleep texting’
A study at Villanova University, Philadelphia has found that teens are getting texts and responding to them in the middle of the night with words or complete gibberish then waking up the next morning and having no memory of replying.
Teenagers are advised to get between 8 and 10 hours sleep but many aren’t getting this and their sleep cycle is getting interrupted one or two hours after going to bed because they are answering texts and hearing the noise of incoming messages.
Obesity, depression, poor performance at school are some of the issues that can be caused by sleep interruptions. The way to solve this issue is sleeping in a technology-free environment or at least turning the phone on silent and leaving it at the other side of the room.
