Achieving a good night’s sleep was listed as one of the top answers in a poll designed to find out what exactly makes people happy, it was reported this week. The survey of 3500 North Americans, carried out by Toronto-based web survey specialists Tellwut, revealed that good sleep was considered along with ‘having a significant other’, money, friendship and children to be the most important contributors to happiness in life.

Women respondents rated good sleep as the second most valuable happiness factor, behind children, while men put sleep at fourth position behind their significant other, money and sex. Interestingly, when looking at the results in line with the respondents personal situations, good sleep was the highest-ranked source of happiness for single people.

It is no surprise that sleep appeared in this survey, as regularly refreshing and rejuvenating sleep is the basis for a healthy and happy lifestyle. Without good quality sleep all of our daily activities and our general wellbeing will soon suffer – a point not lost on the respondents of the happiness survey.
