An investigation into the lifestyles of China’s rich elite has found that many sacrifice sleep to sustain their business success. The ‘Millionaires Happiness Report’, carried out by the Hurun Institute, found that the 551 wealthy mainland respondents had on average 6.6 hours sleep per night, almost two hours less than the national average – a fact that may be significant with the other findings in the study.
The report highlighted a growing level of stress and concern over health issues. Respondents also claimed to be unhappy with the amount of time that their lifestyles permitted them to spend with their children. Women in the group felt that their successful careers had effectively sacrificed their personal lives, with 35% being currently single or divorced – twice the percentage of single or divorced men in the poll.
Outside of work, the super-rich respondents said that travel was their favourite leisure activity, followed by reading. Other popular entertainment activities included tea tasting, driving, family time and spa visits, largely suggesting a desire to wind-down away from work.
