A new service in Vienna is offering customers the chance to catch forty winks with a power nap in serene surroundings, in a bid to relieve stress and boost energy levels. Targeted at local businesspeople and tourists, Reflexia Studio is a sedately furnished environment with calming touches at every turn, from the enveloping daybeds to relaxing mood music. Charging €11 per power nap, it is hoped that the idea of visiting a city centre location rather than the comfort of the home for a brief daytime sleep will catch on.
Although the idea of ‘power naps’ has been firmly entrenched in the business world since the 1980’s, it is something of a novel suggestion for tourists on a sight-seeing city break. However, considering the sleep-limiting effects of international travel it is perhaps a logical step.
By limiting naps to thirty minutes the body is prevented in entering deep sleep phases which require a lighter phase to comfortably come out of before waking, therefore avoiding the feelings of grogginess and disorientation that often accompany a sudden and unexpected wake-up.
It will be interesting to see whether Reflexia’s sleep haven becomes a hit with Vienna’s busy residents and visitors.
